It was another glorious morning at Abingdon ParkRun #530, despite some threatening clouds watching over the beautiful course along the Thames and around Rye Meadow. Abingdon Hockey Club were out to support the 320 runners, covering several of the marshalling points, clicking times and generally cheering the field.
Notable mentions this week have to go to tourists from Australia, France and Milton Keynes and to this week's Race Director Peter's wife Karen Akrill, who completed her 250th parkrun and helped replenish energy levels with a giant 250 cake which awaited her finish! Great effort Karen and to all milestone runners this week! Also completing, possibly our youngest participant at just 6 weeks old, sound asleep as mum crossed the line.
All in, this week registered 25 new pbs and 39 first timers to the Abingdon course and 7 runners under 20 minutes! Well done to all those who took part on two legs, on four on on wheels and we hope to welcome you back next week.
Thanks all the volunteers without whom ParkRun would struggle to operate. Half of our volunteers this week were from Abingdon Hockey Club, a local club based at Tilsley Park with over 200 members. With 8 senior men's, ladies and mixed teams and the Avengers and Eagles Academies for our 6-14 year olds, the club caters for all skill levels and from social hockey to competitive league play. Regular socials and events means there is a strong community both on and off the pitch.
If you are interested in finding out more and coming along for some free trial sessions, please head to the club website at abingdonhockey.org.uk and click the contact us link! Great complementary activity to you parkrunning!
