Match Reports 23rd September 2023

What a week, with 5 more teams kicking off their league last weekend there was fantastic hockey all round. A great turnout for the whole club shows promise for the season ahead. Here's this week's round up and thoughts from our captains.

Men’s 1s 2 -1 vs Aylesbury

The M1s travelled away to Aylesbury for their maiden fixture in south central Div 1. Having secured back to back promotions, we were unsure of how we would measure against the new league’s standard.

Aylesbury were a well drilled and well organised outfit having come 5th the year before.

Abingdon controlled the game from pushback and slowly went through the gears. By halftime Abingdon were 2-0 up and were dominating the game across the pitch.

The second half continued much the same, with the exception of goals. Aylesbury pulled one goal back in the closing minutes from a short corner (their only chance of the game), but was too little too late. The match finished 2-1.

PotM: Ollie Morris

Goal Scorers: Sam Chilvers (2)

Assists: Will Trigg, Curt Philbin

Ladies 1s 4-0 vs Bicester

PotM: Ally Charles

Goal Scorers: Fi Bethel, Lizzie Baker, Ale Betti, Tash Knight

Green Card: Ale Betti

Men’s 2s 2-3 vs Windsor

Will Green

Tough start for the 2s in their new league. A competitive match that could have gone either way. Abingdon ultimately paid the price for not taking their chances, but a lot to build on going into the match with Oxford Uni this week.

PotM: Charlie Cook

Goal Scorers: Charlie Cook, Will Green

Ladies 2s 7-0 vs Oxford

Laura Cardy & Emma Bell

After last week’s narrow defeat, we came out fighting! Determined to play as a team and put training into practice, our positivity was shining in the sun! 1-0 up at half time kept spirits high, and we went on to score 6 more in the second half (two from Lyndsay who told us at half time she doesn’t score!) fantastic game and cannot wait to play again on Saturday!

PotM: Laura Cardy

Goal Scorers: Megan Scott (2), Lyndsay Wilkinson (2), Amy Walker, Laura Cardy, Jen Parrott

DoD: Laura Cardy

Men’s 3s 5-0 vs Leighton Buzzard*

*Home walkover win

Ladies 3s 0-11 vs Wootton Wanderers

Michelle Lewis

Ladies 3s had a tough game against a very strong Wootton 4s. The ladies fought well, and both defended and attacked well against a formidable opposition. Score line didn't reflect the possession. Very good performance early in the season.

PotM: India Reville

Men’s 4s 1-4 vs Wootton Wanderers

Trevor Wiggins

Lots of smiles and positivity were in evidence for our first league game away to Wootton. The 4s started positively and played some mature and skillful hockey throughout the game, ensuring that the older and more experienced opposition had to work hard to overcome the 4s. Despite the result it was a good start to the season and shows plenty of promise for the rest of the season.

PotM: Theo Becker

Goal Scorers: Theo Becker

DoD: Lee Daglish

Green Card: Lee Daglish, Tom Flemming

Good luck to all players this weekend. If you can, show your support for the boys in blue at Tilsley park this Saturday - our Men's 2s face Oxford Uni at 10:30am and the Men's 4s push back vs Milton Keynes at 12:00pm.
