You will be required to work with the three mens and two ladies teams on a rotational basis, with the help of assistant coaches, to raise standards across this friendly and welcoming club.

Training is 8.00 – 9.30pm on a Tuesday night at Tilsley Park in Abingdon. Remuneration is negotiable, in accordance with EH guidelines

This will be a great opportunity for our juniors to gain invaluable match experience and develop their game. The development rules are such that more experienced senior players may only support their juniors and not dominate the game or score goals – which will help our juniors develop their confidence, skills and game play which they will benefit our ladies 2s and 1s as well!

But! We need help from our juniors! – **We are Looking for one our our Ladies who is under 18 to volunteer to Captain this Team- if you are interested or want to nominate someone – then get in touch!**

ALSO – we will be running a competition to name that team. Oxford Hawks name their development tea: Oxford Hawks Harriers, for example! So have a think and watch this space for details of how to enter!

The day will begin at Tilsley Park at 10.30am until 12.30pm, where we will play some friendly hockey. Afterwards we will be moving on to The Brewery Tap in Abingdon for a BBQ (Burgers hot-dogs, salads etc) from 1pm. The club day will then continue in the early evening with a club “pub” quiz, with our very own quiz master Frank!

Everyone is welcome – family / friends etc, and the theme this year is: BRING A FRIEND! There will be a small charge attached to the day, but this will only just cover our costs, depending on how many people are able to come it looks like it will be in the range of £5 per head for 2 hours hockey, a BBQ and a quiz.

Last year was just brilliant fun and it is a great chance, not only to introduce new people to the club but also for members to meet other members and rekindle that club spirit!

The first thing our social secs are going to do is to introduce PUB NIGHT, this will be the first saturday of every month, meeting at The Kings Head and Bell in Abingdon at 8pm. And to encourage your attendance, there will be an exciting twist to our monthly meetings, so keep your eyes open and ears to the ground for more news on this!

ALSO – We want to involve our junior members more in club social events and so we are also aiming to arrange more socials which they can attend – along with parents if they so wish. AND also hopefully members with families will also be able to get involved. At the moment we are thinking about having a family social in October – perhaps a Halloween Party. Hugo and Lisa are working on planning this and it promises to be a great night so keep your eye on the website for further details!

The Abingdon side worked really well together throughout the game and passed the ball around well which led to them controlling much of the play.

It was not long before the first goal came from Will Trigg and more were soon to follow from others.

The final score was 12-2 to Abingdon, an excellent start so let’s keep it up guys!

After the dinner the Chairlady gave her speech and drew attention to all the positives that have come out of this season, including our 28 new members She also thanked the committee, umpires and players for their efforts and commitment this season. Special mention went to Will Trigg who scored his 200th goal for Abingdon this season!! Well done Will!

The Abingdon lot were of course joined by the usual lovely Bicester crowd, and this year saw Hugo and young Ellis join us for what is always a great weekend. And of course Betty came along for the ride!

Luckily for us the weather held out on the saturday and we played some enjoyable social hockey.

But the main event was of course the fancy dress evening on the saturday night – this year’s theme: The Flintstones! Much fun was had by all, on what was a very enjoyable evening out!

I really hope to see as many of you there as possible – come along and have your say in how the club is run!

From the first whistle Abingdon Ladies really took the game to their opposition working well as a team, passing well, making good runs and really putting the City side under pressure. But City, always a strong side, were not going to let Abingdon have it all their way and when they had the play they did their best to trouble the Abingdon defences. But the backs were once again on top form with Sweeper Chantel picking the ball with ease from any forward attempting to get past her.

However, when City managed to get a short corner about 15 minutes into the game they took the opportunity to convert with a well executed routine. But the Abingdon ladies did not let their heads drop and fought back! It was not long before Abingdon had a short corner opportunity of their own – Helen pushed out to Georgia who slipped it to Lisa P. Lisa’s strike rebounded right back at her and she seized her opportunity, lifting the ball over the goalie to make it 1-1.

At half time the scores were still level and when the whistle blew for the start of the second half, Abingdon were desperate for the next goal. The mid-field worked really hard, defending well and pushing forward together. Anna, Georgia and Paula were working over time – getting the ball through to Helen and Aimee up front who were really troubling the city defences and getting lots of chances in the D. Any breaks from City being seen off with ease from defenders Sarah F, Sarah W and Gemma – and the backs too were getting involved in the attacking play, overloading city’s defence. It was not long before another short was won by the girls in blue, which they again took the chance to convert, this time Anna slotting the ball home to make it 2-1.

But City were not going to let us win that easy, and fought back managing to get another goal to level the scores not long after Abingdon had nipped ahead. But that just spurred on the Abingdon ladies even more! Everyone was putting in 100% effort – and it was not long before Abingdon had got the break again, Lisa having intercepted the ball, and made a run forward – the team came to support and after passing it round the defenders, Georgia had a shot which the keeper saved by diving on on the floor, the ball rebounded to Lisa who took aim and fired it home! 3-2.

From then on City lost their formation – desperate to get another break but Abingdon were now on top and piled on the pressure. Many chances narrowly missed – but right at the end, another great tackle from Anna saw Abingdon break again – and once again the team found themselves in the D with the advantage, some well timed passing once again put the keeper off her stride and Paula was there to score the final goal – but as the ball was crossing the line the whistle sounded and the final score was only recorded at 3-2, but we are counting it Paula!!

Awesome result ladies – bring on the summer league!
