Abingdon Avengers

The Next Generation

Welcome to Season 2017/18!

We see our recently established youth hockey section (known as “Abingdon Avengers”) as ‘The Next Generation’ of Abingdon Hockey Club. We are very proud of our growing youth section and we are always delighted to have new young people join us.

Abingdon Avengers provides a safe, fun and professional hockey environment for girls and boys aged 6 to 12 to learn and enjoy hockey.

Sessions are held throughout the season on a Sunday morning from 10am – 11am and are run at Tilsley Park astro-turf pitches by qualified experienced coaches.

We aim to provide a balance of training and hockey game/match play suitable to the age of the child which allows them to continually develop their skills and understanding of the game whilst enjoying them-selves and taking exercise. Once a player is old enough (12+), we aim to encourage them to begin playing with the adult teams, usually starting with the Men’s 3s and Ladies’ 3s.

We welcome girls and boys from age 6 to 12. No experience is required to join, and don’t worry if you have not played hockey before as our sessions cater for all abilities. All that is required is enthusiasm to get active and find out about hockey!  Anyone can come along and join in some sessions before deciding whether hockey and Abingdon Avengers is right for them.

Coaching Sessions

All sessions are held at the Tilsley Park, Dunmore Road, Abingdon, OX14 1PU.

Sundays, 10am – 11am.

Keep up to date with any changes to sessions by following us on Twitter or Facebook

blue_large_final-click-ceop-gif-3The NCA’s CEOP Command is here to help children and young people. We are here to help if you are a young person and you or your friend (up to age 18) has been forced or tricked into taking part in sexual activity with anyone online, or in the real world. We also have advice and links to support for other online problems young people might face, such as cyberbullying and hacking. Visit our Safety Centre for advice and to report directly to CEOP, by clicking on the Click CEOP button.

Information for parents

Before starting the first session (even if it is a trial session) you will need to complete a Membership form, contact details and medical information form for your child and hand it to an administrator for your child’s session. This is essential for ensuring that we can run the sessions safely for everyone involved.  All data will be treated as confidential.

If you are an existing member you still need to have an up to date and signed membership form. For new members blank forms can be downloaded below.

Again, to ensure your child’s safety, all players must be registered with one of our team of administrators before the start of each session. We cannot allow unregistered players to train.

For coaching sessions you will simply require sports clothes suitable to the weather, shin pads and footwear for Astro-turf. A properly fitting gum shield and shin pads are ESSENTIAL.
