The aim of the WHC is to provide some fun, relaxed and friendly hockey during the summer months, as well as an opportunity to bring on newer and younger players (and umpires!).
The tournament takes the form of a round robin league, with each team playing every other team once. Matches are held weekday evenings, typically with 7pm and 8pm pushbacks.
Matches are held at Abingdon’s home ground, Tilsley Park. Any team is welcome to enter (usually by the end of April each year), and most local clubs enter a team. We have had teams from as far West as Witney, as far North as Bicester, and as far South as Newbury enter the White Horse Cup.
Most clubs enter a team consisting of a mix of all their players from the eligible England Hockey leagues with the event lasting around two months.
Abingdon members and previous participating clubs will be contacted by the club towards the end of the standard season and if you are a new club looking to join, please get in touch!
See you in the summer!
As temperatures sit around zero and we face the ultimatum of "will training be on tonight....?" let us tempt you with thoughts of warmer times in the form of Abingdon Hockey Club's summer league .
The White Horse Cup serves as an excellent pre-pre-season training opportunity and gives us something to build on for the upcoming season. Plus, it provides a great opportunity to test out umpiring or develop your skills in a supportive environment ahead of the new season.
We invite you to enter teams by completing our Google registration form.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch via the Teamo link above or through our contact page.
Hope the season is going well for you so far.
In our Ladies 2023 Cup, it was a tight contest in both leagues for top spot, with Bicester A and Bicester B finishing top of the groups. Semi-finals of Wallingford A vs Bicester B (0-1) and Abingdon C vs Bicester A (5-2) lead to a thrilling Abingdon C vs Bicester B, with Abingdon taking home the title after winning on penalties 1-1 (4-3).
In the Men's League, Abingdon C finished comfortably on top with 19 points, Bicester A coming in second with 16 points, winning five of their eight games.
Thanks to everyone who took part and we can not wait to welcome you all back in 2024! Look out for the announcements to register in January!
Congratulations to our 2022 Champions – Abingdon Ladies C’s beat Wychwood Shipton 2-0 in the Ladies Cup Final with Abingdon Men topping the Men’s League! Well done to all our participants and we look forward to welcoming you in 2023!
